Algorithm bias can have serious consequences. Marginalized communities may find their perspectives under-covered or framed through stereotypes if the underlying data and metrics treat them as niche or less profitable audiences. Addressing algorithm bias does not mean abandoning automation, but it does require transparency, oversight, and deliberate design. Newsrooms and platforms can audit their systems, test for disparate impacts, and adjust ranking signals to account for quality, diversity, and reliability — not just engagement. Including diverse voices in product teams and editorial decisions helps identify blind spots that purely technical reviews might miss. For audiences, media literacy now includes understanding that what appears in a feed is curated by algorithms with built-in assumptions.
